He is best known for winning the Cyclo-cross world championships, the Junior Road Race world championships and twice winning the Junior Cyclo-cross world championships. He was the first rider to win multiple titles at that level. He is a young man who may just be the most talented bike racer. Van der Poel’s raw horsepower, uncanny technical skill, and youthful confidence together with uncertain world-class genes that have come together to create an athlete unlike any the sport has ever seen.

“I think cyclo-cross and mountain bike are really good combination because of summer and winter of course but I wanted a new challenged in the summer. I enjoyed riding on the road as well but I asked the team for a mountain bike three years ago and I was in love immediately when I did some racing in Cyprus.” – Mathieu van der Poel

A cyclocross stipulate a lot from athletes, its speed, concentration, and technique. These skills don’t always have to be the highest level of road or mountain bike racing. What was Mathieu’s biggest weapon in cyclocross is not his natural-born, but rather his strategy, a kind of skill that most people learned rather than inherited.
“I think my main goal is to try and win a world cup. That would be really nice. I don’t think many people have done it before to win world cup in cyclo-cross and mountain biking in the same year.” – Mathieu van der Poel
